JVSG Companion Programs: DOL Employment and Training Administration (ETA)

State Workforce Agency (SWA) personnel performing under the Jobs for Veterans State Grant (JVSG) program are tasked with providing intensive services and employer outreach to help veterans realize and sustain employment. In some cases, veterans and their families will require skills training, transition, and reentry services to overcome their barriers to employment. JVSG staff do not have to look very far to identify supportive resources at the DOL.
The DOL Employment and Training Administration (ETA) administers federal government job training and worker dislocation programs, federal grants to states for public employment service programs, and unemployment insurance benefits. These services are primarily provided through state and local workforce development systems and your American Job Centers.
In this second article of our continuing NVTI series, staff will become aware of applicable companion programs and tools for veterans at the ETA that provide technical assistance and can support a flexible, solutions-based model of support.

Teamwork between JVSG grantees and ETA program staff can be leveraged to bring the greatest benefit and impact to veterans and their families. Through communications and networking, government-funded resources such as these can serve as the basis for delivering coordinated workforce solutions. Our nation’s public workforce system depends on close and productive collaboration between multiple providers to address the needs and barriers of veterans experiencing unemployment.
