Agencies and Partners

Corporation for National & Community Service (CNCS)
The Corporation for National & Community Service (CNCS) works with veterans in communities across the U.S., tapping their unique skills and leadership abilities to tackle assignments ranging from disaster response and mentoring at-risk youth to building homes and helping soldiers returning from war. CNCS provides assistance to nearly 500,000 veterans and military families by connecting them to education opportunities, jobs, and the benefits they have earned. Many veterans also volunteer with CNCS so they can continue to serve their country.

DoD Transition Assistance Program (TAP)
The Department of Defense (DoD) Transition Assistance Program (TAP) is an outcome-based program that bolsters opportunities, services, and training for transitioning service members in their preparation to meet post-military goals.

Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Office of Community Planning and Development (CPD)
The Office of Community Planning and Development (CPD) seeks to develop viable communities by promoting integrated approaches that provide decent housing, a suitable living environment, and expand economic opportunities for low and moderate income persons (including veterans). The primary means towards this end is the development of partnerships among all levels of government and the private sector, including for-profit and non-profit organizations.

National Veterans’ Technical Assistance Center (NVTAC)
The National Veterans’ Technical Assistance Center (NVTAC) provides training and technical assistance to its grantees and other organizations who are committed to helping veterans experiencing homelessness find employment. NVTAC is funded by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Veterans’ Employment and Training Service (DOL-VETS).

Nebraska Association of Local Health Directors (NALHD)
Nebraska Association of Local Health Directors’ (NALHD’s) VetSET Nebraska project is readying communities in Nebraska to meet the unique needs of rural veterans and their families.

New Mexico Department of Veteran Services (NMDVS)
New Mexico Department of Veteran Services (NMDVS) provides a variety of  veteran services such as establishing a Veteran and Family Transition Center in four different regions of the state to help returning families gain access to health care, education, job placement and housing.

Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E)
Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E) (Formerly known as Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment) services help with job training, employment accommodations, resume development, and job seeking skills coaching. Other services may be provided to assist Veterans and Servicemembers in starting their own businesses or independent living services for those who are severely disabled and unable to work in traditional employment.

Veterans Transportation and Community Living Initiative (VTCLI)
The Department of Transportation, together with the Departments of Defense, Health and Human Services, Labor and Veterans Affairs, announced the Veterans Transportation and Community Living Initiative (VTCLI), designed to increase collaboration among federal, state and local agencies and organizations to address the mobility challenges faced by our nation’s veterans, service members, and their families. On this page, communities can find resources which may help them understand these challenges and coordinate to address them.

Virginia Veteran & Family Support Program (VVFS)
The Virginia Veteran & Family Support Program (VVFS) is operated statewide by the Virginia Department of Veterans Services (DVS ) and provides outreach, connection and support to veterans and their families as they address the challenges of military service, transition, deployments, post-traumatic stress or other behavioral health concerns as well as traumatic brain injuries and physical injuries.

Volunteers of America (VOA) North Louisiana is a faith based ministry of service providing opportunity, promoting dignity, and inspiring change in all who find their way to the organization.

WestCare, a family of tax-exempt nonprofit organizations, provides a wide spectrum of health and human services in both residential and outpatient environments. Their services include substance abuse and addiction treatment, homeless and runaway shelters, domestic violence treatment and prevention, and mental health programs.

New Directions for Veterans (NDVets)
New Directions for Veterans offers a wide array of services including substance abuse treatment, counseling, remedial education, job training and placement, as well as parenting and money management classes. Legal and tax assistance are available, as is an active aftercare program and resources for alumni. Veterans leave NDVets with a savings account, housing, a job or other income, computer skills, renewed self-confidence and the support of mentors and peers. Such a transformation takes hard work, motivation and accountability, but the results are life altering—and for many veterans, life-saving.

Pets of the Homeless
Feeding Pets of the Homeless find solace, protection and companionship through their pets. They care for their pets on limited resources so they themselves have less. Their task, nationwide, is to feed and provide basic emergency veterinary care to their pets and thus relieve the anguish and anxiety of the homeless who cannot provide for their pets. To accomplish this task, they have four unique programs that provides free pet food, free emergency veterinary care, they sponsor wellness clinics and ship sleeping crates to homeless shelters.

Reentry Employment Opportunities (REO)
The Reentry Employment Opportunities (REO) program provides funding, authorized as Research and Evaluation under Section 169 of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) of 2014, for justice-involved youth and young adults and adults who were formerly incarcerated. Their goal is to develop strategies and partnerships that facilitate the implementation of successful programs at the state and local levels that will improve the workforce outcomes for this population. These projects are designed to test the effectiveness of successful models and practices found in community and faith-based environments and other government systems that have not been tested for their adaptability in the public workforce system.
