In this webinar, Maria Temiquel, Director of the Office of Grants and Training at the Department of Labor Veterans’ Employment and Training Service (VETS), explained how GrantSolutions and the Payment Management System affect closeout, the closeout process and timelines, as well as the responsibilities of VETS, grant recipients, and subrecipients. In addition, participants got a closer look at the contents of the closeout package, common issues that delay the closeout process, and the grantee’s post-closeout responsibilities.
In this webinar, Lillie Mells, Education & Training Program Coordinator at the Office of Mental Health Suicide Prevention at Veteran's Affairs Central Office, provided a general overview of the scope of veteran suicide within the U.S. In addition, she explained how to identify a veteran who may be at risk for suicide, what to do when someone identifies a veteran at risk, and outlined the Veterans Affairs S.A.V.E. steps which teach someone how to act with care and compassion if they encounter a veteran who is in crisis.

In this webinar led by Victor Glover, JVSG State Coordinator in North Carolina, and John Savage, Regional Administrator for VETS Atlanta Region, they discussed how veterans and eligible spouses are entitled to precedence over non-covered persons in the program known as Priority of Service. They explained what Priority of Service means, its history, and who is eligible along with how states and local areas can implement Priority of Service, the importance and requirements for state and local policies, and some best practices from states around the nation regarding their provision of Priority of Service. Additionally, they clarified the difference between veteran Priority of Service and veterans’ preference at the state and local levels.
In this webinar, five states presented the lessons learned and promising practices that contributed to their improved performance in Program Year 2020. The event included a facilitated discussion where states asked questions and got answers from their colleagues across the nation.
In this one hour webinar, we overview NVTI’s certificate program, the JVSG Career Roadmap Certificate. The presenters overview what certificate programs are, why they are valuable, and specifically what the JVSG Career Roadmap certificate program is and who it is designed for. They also discuss requirements, application and enrollment, measuring progress and considerations, constraints, and future plans. In this one-hour webinar recording, Emily Wen, Cost Negotiator with the U.S. Department of Labor’s Cost & Price Determination Division, reviewed different types of costs and indirect cost rates, discussed the allocation base, cost allocation plans (CAPs), and indirect cost proposal due dates. Emily Wen also reviewed the reimbursement of indirect costs via a rate, the reimbursement of indirect costs via a CAP, and answered questions at the end.
In this video, So, You’re Being Audited: Triennial Audit Training for Fiscal Years 2022 through 2024, NVTI’s Dan Griffiths presents elements of DOL VETS’ audits of states’ compliance with the roles and responsibilities of staff funded by the Jobs for Veterans State Grant (JVSG) program. Viewers will learn about and understand the triennial, or three-year, audit cycle for the JVSG program, its framework, and various supporting elements. Background information will include the relevant legal guidance applicable for this effort. The video also examines the four phases of the audit process, as well as the tool developed by DOL VETS to be used during the implementation of oversight responsibilities. Finally, viewers will gain an understanding of Areas of Concern and Findings that will need to be addressed by State Workforce Agencies, or SWAs.
In this webinar recording, NVTI Instructor Greg Davis and Nikkol Wymer of DOL VETS discussed resources to locate applicable guidance and regulations, identify resources for Disabled Veterans' Outreach Program (DVOP) specialists, and identify resources for Local Veterans' Employment Representative (LVER) staff. They discussed resources specific to serving veterans with significant barriers to employment as well as other special veteran populations and topics to include rural veterans, American Indian and Alaska Native veterans, LGBTQ+ veterans, veterans with addictions, and suicide prevention for veterans. They also discussed resources for recruiting and hiring veterans, apprenticeships, on-the-job training, and retaining veterans. The following webinar session is a comprehensive training for grant recipient financial and programmatic personnel responsible for closing out grant awards. The webinar session included an updated presentation on the grant closeout process as it applies to Department of Labor, Veterans’ Employment & Training Service grants (Jobs for Veterans State Grants as well as grants funded under the Homeless Veterans’ Reintegration Program). The presentation was followed by a question and answer session.
In the following webinar, Hughes McLean, Apprenticeship & Training Representative and Veteran Liaison for the Department of Labor’s Office of Apprenticeship, supported participants in: describing Registered Apprenticeship Programs (RAPs), the components of the program, and breadth of opportunities; summarizing the benefits of RAPs to the veteran, the employer and the Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E) program; identifying a working knowledge of the different partners in a RAP; discussing different tools and approaches to locating appropriate RAPs in their region and; establishing a connection between veteran needs and apprenticeship fit. Hughes McLean also engaged in a robust question and answer session with webinar participants.
